Reviews For Victorian Homes Magazine

Lover of Victoriana

I LOVE Victoriana! And, I collect it whenever possible! I love the grace and style of the homes... and I think they shine their beauty, from the pages of this periodical, especially in the Holiday issue.

Take a mental trip with me if you will, and let your mind wander as I describe the 'why' I love the way the stately Victorian Homes shown look in Winter.

Imagine yourself walking down the street of a small New England village, in Vermont. Snow is on the ground, and the night air is crisp and cold; so cold in fact, that your breath steams when you breathe or talk. Makes you huddle into your coat, hmm?

As you continue walking, glancing back and forth across the street you walk on, lights from inside the homes are seen through the windows, some edged in frost, inviting us to look in.

Through the frost-edged window we see the roaring fires in the fireplaces; the Christmas tree, resplendent in its decorations; and we imagine walking into the hall of the home as the scents of simmering potpourri and fresh-forest tree combine wafting on the air around us... just as fireplace smoke scents the air outside.

As we continue walking, we note how the outside lights on the Gazebo-on-the-Green, cast a glow on the crest of the untouched snow.

I get a wealth of ideas on everything from decorating the house and tree, to ideas on setting my table for Holiday entertaining.

Each issue of this magazine makes me wish, more and more, to own a Victorian Home. I've always loved the rich colours and textures the Victorians used, and have felt they had the right idea in that the richness of the upholstry enhanced the look of the furniture, making it look inviting... although we know, if we've ever sat on a piece of it, that some of the chairs and sofas just were not designed for comfort. Grace and practicality? Yes. Comfort? NO!

Thank you for a beautiful magazine, which covers an era in time when beauty, decorum, elegance, grace, and manners, ruled and were the order of the day.

A Must for Lover's of Old Victorians!!!

After purchasing a beautiful 1896 New England Victorian, I wanted to learn all I could about the homes and culture of the Victorian period. This magazine is so incredibly helpful. Packed with great photos and inspiring articles about other homeowners, I have read and reread the magazine. Even after scouring bookstores and other magazines, nothing touches the quality and scope of this publication. Not only have I been able to glean some insights into how-to's, I have learned tremendously from seeing the historically accurate interiors and exteriors. I feel as if I've been given a doorway to the past and it's made me feel even greater a bond with my new old home!!
