Reviews For Bmx Plus Magazine

BMX Plus! is a BMX biker's Must!

Twenty years ago, I picked up my first issue of "BMX Plus!" magazine, and found it to be on-target with the happenings and the equipment important to a thirteen year old bike enthusiast of the day. The articles featured great products and bikes that were cutting edge technology back in the sport's earliest years, and the photography was fantastic.

Two decades later, I've returned to my long dormant passion for BMX bicycles, and was very happy to find that BMX Plus! was still on the rack at the corner drug store! I grabbed an issue and was highly impressed with the content and the layout of my old favorite, and have been reading it faithfully for months now!

The current staff of writers laces the tests and the articles with humor and a down-to-earth style that is fun to read, and still informative. The "how-to" features cover aspects of cycling that are essential to today's BMX riders, and often include photo-by-photo steps, along with the text, to guide even a novice through the project.

New bike and frame tests always include the good and the bad points, as the staff sees them. They put the bikes through extensive tests at the hands of several riders to gain a diverse opinion of the product being tested, and they let the readers know if a component fails, or could stand to be improved. Also included in most of these tests are a final recommendation as to who should or shouldn't seek to purchase a specific item. Too many magazines that I read (mainly automotive ones) just try to drum up sales for their advertisers and contributors by giving loads of great press to whatever product that has been thrown their way, without letting the readers know the drawbacks. It is refreshing to find that the staff at BMX Plus! really know how to present a new product to their readers without practically writing a six page ad for the product!

Also very entertaining are the Reader's Letters and some of the retorts directed back to them! The editors publish letters from all ages and types of readers, and often reward them for their efforts with sample products or cool bike related stickers! (No car magazine ever sent me a thing for my contributions to their letter page!)

There is a technical help forum as well for readers to ask the staff for answers to a specific problem, or to share a piece of good advice with others. The experts try to give detailed and helpful replies within the space available to try and solve the reader's problem.

At times, I feel that there is a little too much coverage of events and competition in the magazine, but I also realize that this is an important area to some of the other readers, so I would not be too critical of that one observation. I don't compete with my bikes, I build, fix and ride them for fun and for other enthusiasts. I am anxious to read each new issue of this fine publication, and I have made several product decisions and purchases based on information from this magazine. I have also used many of the technical tips when working on my bikes, and found them to be very accurate and easy to follow.

If you ride, own or THINK about BMX bikes, then you will likely find yourself drawn to this magazine every month, and I am sure that you will enjoy the laid-back style and clever wit strung through many of the articles and features. This monthly publication offers a timely, fun and informative look into the world of BMX with each issue, and boasts many fine mail-order advertisers who offer the latest products at great prices. This is the one and ONLY magazine that I read cover-to-cover every month...oh yeah...it's THAT good!

A Guide and Inspiration

Itching to get on the road? Love the long haul? Longing for a road trip whilst snow sits? I've traveled vicariously through the winter months with this little gem ... inspired for the road as soon as it smells like Spring. An informative, accessible, and descent guide to the long ride.

Nice read.

The first thing you'll notice, is that this magazine is printed in high quality, glossy paper. Its certainly a fancy magazine.
If you enjoy reading ride reports, then this is the subscription you are looking for. Most articles can be a little skimpy though, but you still get a great taste of the ride. The photography is generally fantastic.
