Reviews For Vegetarian Times Magazine

Healthy and Delicious!

I've been a vegetarian for almost 5 years now. My decision was for a variety of reasons, particularly to do with health and animal rights. I fell in love with Vegetarian Times the very first time I read it.

This magazine covers a large range of ideas. It showcases health and emotional issues beyond just what's for dinner. In the March 2002 issue, there was an article called "Healing Grief" about coping with losses. There was a small fitness section devoted to getting "Awesome Abs". The topics that they deal with apply to everyone's lives and are very diverse and helpful in their content.

In the same issue, there was a section devoted to choosing good knives-- in each issue there seems to be one kitchen tool that they take a close look at, whether it be woks, grilling machines, knives, or anything else. There was an article on different herbs. I'm always looking for new and interesting spices to cook with, because all those jars in the grocery store can be incredibly intimidating to a 19-year-old in her first kitchen!

All kinds of organic products and natural remedies are featured in this magazine, but it does a good job of not coming off to "new age". It's a rational approach to living more than anything else. It talks about studies of what different vitamins, herbs, and essential oils can do to help your health. Just in time for the spring season of allergies and stress illness (at least here in my college town), there was a short article about immune system boosters.

But, the main reason I read it is for the recipes. From Thai foods to comfort foods, appetizers through desserts, these cover a wide range of things, and I get at least a couple good ideas from each magazine. While I don't cook entire meals very often, I always get something new to try from reading each new issue of Vegetarian Times. It gives me so many new ways to cook the same old foods-- in the March 2002 issue (that's the one I have on my lap right now) the article about comfort foods focuses on the potato. It gives 7 different recipes to use the good old spud-- doesn't that sound like a better range of choices than baked or mashed?

Yes, there are a lot of ads in the magazine. But, I always take the time to look through them, and have found quite a few great companies from them. They ads are really targeted to an organic lifestyle-- the kind I'm hoping to attain. I've tried new products that were featured in some of the ads, and they were really excellent. So maybe we should stop cursing ads and try a new product we never would have noticed!

This magazine is a great choice to any vegetarian looking for new recipes, or even to meat eaters who are looking to diversify their diets with some organic and vegetarian ideas to add in.

Great magazne for vegetarians

I have been subscribing to Vegetarian times for almost 6 years now and I absolutely love it. I will continue subscribing to this magazine for many more years to come due to the unique recipes and beautiful pictures they provide in each issue.
Being vegetarian is at times difficult and this magazine provides a great library of recipes easy to replicate at home without being too complicated. There are always step by step instructions that are easy to read and always delicious.
The magazine also provides more that recipes, it provides articles on certain ingredients and how to use them. There are always coupons throughout the magazine as well on organic foods and vegan items.
The magazine caters to vegetarian, lactose intolerant and vegan eaters. There are always ideas for how to substitute your favorite meats with soy products. You can find every type of recipe including desserts, entrees, appetizers, soups and many more.
Aside from food, this magazine has articles on many non food items as well. They advertised vegan shoes, beauty care items which are made from all natural products and plant based vitamins and supplements. There is also a questions and answer section that gives readers a chance to ask vegetarian related questions.

Scrumptious!

A magazine filled to the brim with great recipes and easy directions, Vegetarian Times makes me feel like a high class cook. I've made many things from the pages of this magazine and unlike other failed recipes, the results actually look like those pictured in the pages! Not only does it have great things to cook, but they have amazing articles on health and foods that are beneficial to you. This is a great magazine not only for those with a meat free lifestyle, but those that just want to make delicious food!

This magazine available most everywhere, and the recipes don't call for things that are difficult to find in any home. If you are an average cook, this magazine will make you feel sophisticated and like you could open your own restaurant, that is if you don't eat all that you cook first!

I have made a number of recipes from this magazine and they all turn out wonderful, not only that I make them again and again. My family has become attached to this magazine just because it inspires me to get in the kitchen and cook them interesting and new food. Being vegetarian for so long we got quite accustomed to how we eat, and constantly thinking there is no alternative to pasta and bean burritos... This magazine has really be a saviour for my family because we try new things because of it. More than that, we are finding tons of alternatives to meat, with hearty soy, veggie, and tofu meals.

I recommend this magazine to everyone, it's a life-saver!

Long time subscriber

I have subscribed and bought Vegetarian Times for the past 11 years, ever since becoming a vegetarian. I have tried other veggie magazines, and always prefer this one best. The recipes are consistently yummy and fairly easy to make. I also enjoy the other features including nutrition articles. I even love the ads because I have discovered new products in this manner and I like to keep up with new things to try. This magazine especially comes in handy around the holidays because they always feature holiday meal recipes and ideas. I save many of my old issues, or tear the recipes out to save in a notebook. Most of my tried and true family recipes have come from this magazine. The only negative thing I can say about it is that they have screwed up on subscription issues twice.

not just recipes

I am not a vegetarian so it may seem strange that I subscribe to this magazine. However I do strive to give myself and my family the healthiest lifestyle I possibly can. I think that starts with the food you put into your body. Vegetarian Times is dedicated to educating people on health, balance and general knowledge about food and living.

The articles are always professional, well written, well researched and interesting. My oldest has Attention Deficit Disorder and I collect information on this topic wherever I can get it. The best, most up to date and thorough article I ever saw on the subject was in Vegetarian Times.

My family eats meat probably once a month so the recipes in this magazine are wonderful for us. I can make interesting, delicious and nutritious well balanced meals taken out of my magazines whenever I want.

My sister is a vegan and I bought her a subscription for Christmas last year. She was ecstatic and so were all her vegan roommates (she is a student).

I think that people need to recognize that it is hard on our bodies to try and break down meat year after year, especially the highly processed and treated meats that are available today. We need to look to a healthier more cleansing way of living. Let's face it, if you examine your teeth you may notice they aren't exactly the type that were made to chew up meat. Not only that but the way our digestive system is made the meat doesn't pass through all that easily anywhere. It's something to think about.

More and more we need to have alternatives and the Vegetarian Times is definitely one way to keep on top of the most up to date things.

Pro Vegetable

I'm not one of those "nazi vegetarians". You know, one of those vegetarians who are personally offended when other people eat meat, and constantly try to convert you to their veggie ways. I am more of a "pro vegetable" vegetarian. I love being meat free, and if you ask my opinion, I will tell you how I wish everyone was meat free, but what you do is your own business. That being said, the magazine Vegetarian Times is a great source of information on healthy eating for veggie heads and meateaters alike.
Most of the recipes you will find in Vegetarian Times are simple and almost always good. There is even a glossary in the back that defines what some of the more unusual ingredients are, and where to find them.
I have been subscribing for a long time, and I have noticed that they do repeat recipes a little more often than I would like. I didn't even notice until I was cataloging recipes in order to recycle the magazines, so it isn't within the same year.
Recipe redux is a good column in Vegetarian Times. Readers write in with old childhood recipes, and the recipe wizards "vegetize" the recipe, making it low fat and healthy. Carrot and Stick I also like, if a company, person, group, etc. is doing something good for the enviornment or animal welfare they earn a carrot. The losers of the world get a stick.
Vegetarian Times is a good read, and very informative in many natural health type of areas, such as: skin care, supplements, herbs, and organic produce. I think anyone who is interested in self help and well being will benefit from Vegetarian Times.

Not just for vegetarians!

Stimulate your healthier side each month with great vegetarian ideas from this magazine! I have subscribed to Vegetarian Times for over 6 years, and I'm still thrilled each month to find it in the mailbox. The recipes are seasonal which reminds me incorporate squash and yams into our dinners in the winter and lighter fare in the summer. (It's so easy to get into a rut!) There is a section on new products on the market which is always fun and a profile about vegetarian restaurants in cities around the US. The index at the back allows me to scan a magazine quickly to see if there's anything tempting for dinner. Plus, the "under 30 minute" symbol allows me to know if we can get than dinner made quick. Unusual ingredients are also well defined (and kept to a minimum). I've kept all my old issues and refer back to them regularly. Now, I only wish I could get it on a CD-ROM!

I've loaned copies out to both vegetarian and non-vegetarian friends who just wanted a bit more variety, and I've shared more recipes that I can count. Last month's 3 bean chili has been a winner at all the Holiday Potluck's we've attended. The secret ingredient? Chopped fennel bulb (aka anise).

This would be a welcome gift for any health-conscious friend who is open to occasional (or regular) vegetarian fare.

Good Read

I was given a gift subscription to Vegetarian Times. I have been a veg-head as my family calls me for almost four years now. My family are NOT vegetarians. I found this to be one of the best veggie magazines I have come across. I found all the articles good reading. I like the reviews on new products. I love the section on sharing ideas. I know this is a good read when I found my husband reading it and asking me to try a recipe he saw in the last issue! I do cook vegetarian and usually my dishes are the "side dishes" to what the rest of the family is eating. I have found a few great recipes that I have made as the main course without any disagreement from my family. I have found recipes I make and take to pot luck events as well. They are always a hit and some folks do not realize they are vegetarian! That is the most fun.
As I said the recipes are wonderful and easy to follow and usually very easy to make. I like the nutritional information at the end of each recipe as well.

Who needs meat?

The recipes in Vegetarian Times are so good you'll wish you were a vegetarian so you could eat like this every day! And recipes are just the beginning. You'll also find excellent articles on how to eat veggie and still get a healthy balance of all the vitamins, minerals, proteins and nutrients you need, great vegetarian restaurants, herbal preparations, spas and healthy getaways, and vegetarian news and events. There are other good vegetarian magazines but this one's the most complete. Do people ever ask you how you can stand to not eat meat? Give them a copy of Vegetarian Times and see if they don't start thinking about the veggie life soon too.

The Best Vegetarian Magazine

"Vegetarian Times" is a wonderful magazine whether you are currently a vegetarian, are thinking about becoming a vegetarian, have a vegetarian in the family that you have to cook for, or are just interested in vegetarianism. The magazine, which comes out once a month, is full of a variety of wonderful tasting recipes. Each recipe indicates whether it is lacto, ovo, or dairy-free. It is very vegan-friendly. Nutrition information is given at the end of each recipe as well. If you are short on time, there are several recipes that take 30 minutes or less to prepare. There are a lot more than recipes to "Vegetarian Times." There are health articles, special offers, information on natural healing, information about cool new products, and a lot more that that is geared toward the vegetarian lifestyle. I'd definitely check out this magazine.
